The Five Essential Steps to a Proper Skin Care Routine

The skin is the largest organ on the body and we should be taking care of it properly. Healthy skin that looks young, radiant and flawless can offer you great confidence and it is better than any filter you may have. It doesn’t have to be complicated. Fortunately, an effective daily skin care routine is all that is needed to maintain healthy, good-looking skin at all times.

Step 1: Cleanse Your Face

The first step to a proper skin care routine is to cleanse your face. You should be using a proper cleanser suited for your skin type. Cleansing removes, dirt, debris, and makeup that will clog your pores. It is important to note that hard to remove makeup should be removed with a makeup remover.

Step 2: Exfoliate

Exfoliating the skin is a very important step in a proper skin care routine. It is important to use a proper yet gentle exfoliating product. Depending on the exfoliator you are using it can be done daily or 2-3 per week. It is important that you are removing all the excess dead skin cells from your skin that make your skin look dull and cause acne and breakouts. Exfoliating also helps prepare the skin for better product absorption.

Step 3: Tone

Once cleansing has been done and all your makeup has been removed, your face is ready to be toned. This is an important step that most people like to skip. Toning the face helps remove any left-over makeup, oil left on the skin as well as well as restore your skin’s PH level.

Step 4: Moisturize

Next up is moisturizing. A moisturizer can help protect your skin against the environment, especially for those with sensitive skin. It can provide your skin with the daily hydration it needs. It is important that you are using the proper moisturizer for your skin. Even a person with oily skin should be using a daily moisturizer. A moisturizer also helps fight the signs of aging and reduces wrinkles and blemishes.

Step 5: Always Use SPF

The sun’s UVA/UVB rays are the biggest contributing factors to our skin’s aging. Sun exposure leads to premature aging, sun spots, hyperpigmentation, dry skin and most seriously, skin cancer. To counteract the harmful effects of the sun, it is recommended to always use sunscreen your face, as well as on other parts of the body that will be exposed to sunlight. Avoiding the sun between 10 am and 2 pm is also a good idea. A broad spectrum sunscreen is best.
